15 Reasons to Love Niagara USA

Published: 02/04/2014

1. Unique Food
From Dwyers Irish Pub in North Tonawanda to DiCamillo’s Italian Bakery, to family owned restaurants on Pine Avenue, you will experience unique restaurants and eateries with rich history that have been around for generations.

2. Wine
With 20 wineries in the Niagara USA Wine Trail and even a bar devoted to wine (Wine on Third in downtown Niagara Falls), you know it has to be plentiful and delicious!

3. Negative Ions
Although there isn’t a lot of science to back this up, it made the list anyway. It is believed that the mist from Niagara Falls creates negative ions that increase the levels of the mood chemical, serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy. No wonder why everyone is always so chipper!

4. Indian Restaurants
There are a lot, seven to be exact, and they’re all within a one mile radius in downtown Niagara Falls. Naan anyone?

5. Basketball
Stellar athletic programs at Niagara University and Niagara Falls High School have earned top awards in championships like the 2007 MACC win that got NU a spot at the NCAA Tournament. Sixth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft went to Niagara Falls native and former Niagara Falls High School player Jonny Flynn.

6. Rainbows
We have tons of rainbows—without all of those pesky leprechauns!

7. History
The history of Old Fort Niagara spans more than 300 years. You can tour and view artifacts from the 18th and 19th centuries. Hear ye! Hear ye!

8. Seasons
We get all four. Take that, Florida!

9. Aged to Perfection
Niagara Falls State Park is America's oldest state park, established in 1885. It was designed by famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

10. Power
Niagara Falls is the second largest power producer in the United States.

11. Daredevils
On June 15, 2012, Nik Wallenda was the rst daredevil to successfully walk across Horseshoe Falls. He is the latest in a long line of stunters who have dared to come up against the mighty Niagara Falls.

12. Water
Lots and lots of water. About 750,000 gallons (over 2,839 liters) of water flow over NiagaraFalls each second. That’s about 3,160 tons, if we did our math correctly.

13. Birds
Well, we don’t necessarily love them all the time, especially in the spring! Anyway, the Niagara River supports thousands of wintering gull and waterfowl species. And we do mean thousands!

14. Ghosts
Hey, it may be a little scary but the ghosts of The Winery at Marjim Manor were on the SciFi Channel’s Ghost Hunters. They’re famous - that’s why we love them!

15. Concerts
There are over one hundred free concerts every year. Who doesn’t love FREE?
