A Penny-Pincher’s Guide to Niagara USA

An itinerary highlighting the FREE attractions in the already affordable, Niagara USA!

Please note: some attractions are seasonal or have limited days/hours

  • Start your day by exploring Niagara Falls State Park and viewing the majestic falls from Prospect Point and Terrapin Point
  • See artist's studios and two galleries at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center (The NACC) - the largest multiart facility outside of New York City featuring over 70 studios
  • Hike along the Niagara Gorge or overlook them from a scenic Vista at Whirlpool State Park or hike down to the raging rapids at Devils Hole State Park
  • Learn how electricity is generated from the water that flows over the Falls through hands-on exhibits and films at the Niagara Power Project's Power Vista
  • Venture over to the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University to view their collection of contemporary and modern art, in addition to their Underground Railroad Interpretive Center and exhibit
  • Get a glimpse of Native American arts and culture at the Native American Museum of Art at Smokin Joe's
  • Rejuvenate and enlighten yourself at the Fatima Shrine that features fifteen acres of gardens highlighted by a glass Dome Basilica and over 100 life-sized statues
  • Drive out along Lake Ontario to 30 Mile Point Lighthouse in Golden Hill State Park to view the Lake from the original observation tower and learn about the history of the Lighthouse through educational displays
  • Head to Murphy Orchards, an historic farmstead of an abolitionist and actual "stop" on the UndergroundmRailroad where you'll see the barn that was used to house escaping slaves
  • Arts and culture abound in Lockport! Visit the Market Street Art Center, Kenan Center and Carnegie Art Center and marvel at their galleries and exhibits
  • Visit the New York State Erie Canal Museum at Locks 34 & 35 to see pictures and artifacts from the construction of the Erie Canal
  • End the evening back in Niagara Falls State Park viewing the illumination of the Falls as they are bathed in a rainbow of light
  • Depending on the season, watch the awe-inspiring display of Fireworks Over the Falls
