Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation Celebrates Hospitality Employees

Published: 05/04/2016

Niagara Falls, NY – In recognition of National Travel & Tourism Week and in preparation for the kick-off to the 2016 summer tourism season, the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation (NTCC) today hosted a “Day of Appreciation” for hospitality employees throughout Niagara County. Over 700 employees from across the industry attended the event at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls.

“Those in the hospitality and tourism industry often work long hours and on weekends and holidays, but all are dedicated to helping ensure that visitors to our region enjoy their stay,” said John Percy, NTCC’s president & CEO. “As we ramp up efforts for the summer tourism season, we came together today to thank these individuals for all that they do to help visitors experience the best Niagara USA has to offer not only during the peak summer season but throughout the year.”

Tourism is the second largest employer in Niagara County, employing approximately 20 percent of the total workforce and tourism sales generate approximately $65 million in both state and local taxes which equates to about $735 in savings per Niagara County household.

“Day of Appreciation” attendees enjoyed food, fun and entertainment provided by Niagara County businesses and organizations. Operators from various Niagara USA attractions were on hand to provide information to hospitality and tourism workers about what brings tourists to the region in addition to the natural beauty and wonder of Niagara Falls and Visa Gift Cards in various amounts were awarded to lucky winners throughout the afternoon.

Also at the event, the NTCC announced the release of “EXP Niagara” the official destination education and visitor services training program. This web based training provides the Niagara USA hospitality and tourism community with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance visitor experiences by educating them on the destination’s tourism products as well as customer service training specifically designed for visitors. The cost for this program has been generously underwritten by the NTCC and is free to all Niagara County hospitality and tourism partners.

“EXP Niagara has been under development all winter and it is perfect timing to launch it today at an event that is all about our workforce which is who this training program was designed for,” said Percy. “These workers are the true core of the region and often make the first impression to those visiting Niagara USA so it’s important to recognize their value and contributions to our tourism economy by providing them with the best possible tools to enhance the visitor experience.”
