Guest Blogger- Jennifer Pauly

We have our very first guest blogger, Jennifer Pauly of the Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce. Say that three times fast. She wrote a blog on the Winetique Festival held this past weekend in Sanborn.

This past Sunday was a perfect day for antique shopping and Wine and what better place to do both than the Winetique Festival.  The festival was held at the Sanborn Fire Hall, located in the heart of the hamlet of Sanborn and was sponsored by the business association and the Niagara River Region Chamber.   The festival consisted of several farm vendors including fresh apples, brussel sprouts, onions, pumpkins, organic honey and more.  There were plenty of food vendors including the popular chicken chowder, blooming onion, kettle corn and other festival favorites.  My favorite part of the day was the WINE of course!  The Niagara region boasts a GREAT wine trail and several of the Niagara Wine Trail wineries came out to give samples and sell wine by the glass and bottle.  The wineries were Schulze Winery, Arrowhead Winery, Leonard Oakes Winery, Vizcarra Vineyards, Niagara Landing and the Village Wine Tours.  Two of the wineries sold so much, they had to go back and grab more!  Inside the firehall was a treasure trove of antiques and fall country crafts.  I bought a few pieces of antique jewelry, some fall crafts and a handmade purse. There were over 20 vendors inside selling everything from dishes and jewelry to old books and paintings.

I bought some raffle tickets for the basket auction and to my surprise – won a basket! I haven’t picked it up yet and was told to pick it up at the Sanborn Mill Shop tonight…which will give me another reason to shop for antiques!  The hamlet of Sanborn is becoming a great place to shop for antiques. You can find a string of antique shops on Buffalo Avenue (Rt 429).   The Winetique Festival was a great day of food, shopping and wine. Next year I will come prepared with an empty stomach and more money to spend on some great finds!
