Lewiston, N.Y.- Voted the sixth best new golf course in America, Hickory Stick Golf Course is an impressive course worth pulling the clubs out for.

Hickory Stick is impressive.
I’m not an avid golfer, but I do enjoy swinging the clubs with friends of a similar caliber to share some time outdoors – especially when you can’t get on the water. When given the opportunity to sample the new Hickory Stick Golf Course in Lewiston, I jumped at the opportunity.
Opened in 2010, this Robert Trent Jones II course was rated the sixth Best New Course in America by Golf Magazine. Located just a chip shot from Niagara Falls, the layout adapts to the rare and protected Shellbark Hickory trees the course was named after. Hopefully my errant shots didn’t do anything too damaging to the natural splendor of the environment.
The course did not disappoint me from the standpoint of being challenging, picturesque and an impressive addition to the area’s outdoor attractions. Yes, I truly believe that there will be a segment of the golf world that will add a day or two to their Niagara USA itinerary because of this course – bringing more duffers into Niagara USA.
There are five beautiful lakes (okay, ponds) that adorn the 18 hole, Par 72 Championship layout course. Each hole has five sets of tee boxes, with a maximum option extending over 7,000 yards of play. Our group played all of that and more, but not by choice. We played from the whites and did pretty well for a first time out. For me, shooting a round of 84 (41 on the back) was pretty darn impressive and I was proud as a peacock. I don’t think that would happen again. Still, I will look forward to golfing this course again in the near future and getting to know the holes.
Check out their website at www.senecahickorystick.com to get a sneak peak of the course, to make reservations or the check out special outings. I really think that this would be a great venue for some special event down the road, of the caliber of the Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls Country Club. Treat yourself sometime to one of Niagara USA’s newest outdoor attractions. The Seneca’s did a great job!
