Cambria, N.Y.- A Gust of Sun Winery has opened the doors to its rustic tasting room located just off route 104 in the Town of Cambria.

Coupling a background in science with a passion for wine making, Shane and Erik Gustafson have uncorked the newest addition to the 15 winery Niagara Wine Trail - A Gust of Sun Winery - offering seven wines on their 10-acre property.

Coming from a background in chemistry and the food sciences at Purdue University, the married couple decided to cultivate their wine operation along the Niagara Wine Trail following much research and after considering wine regions in California, Oregon and the Finger Lakes, Eric Gustafson said.

"We started with a wine appreciation class at Purdue," he said. "Then we started producing home wine in Iowa and now it's this and I am ecstatic."

A Gust of Sun officially opened this past weekend and had some immediate success, Eric Gustafson said, visitors flocked to the Amish-style tasting room and toured the property, which is complete with a Koi Fish pond, newly planted vineyards and cozy Adirondack chairs dotting the landscape.

Nestled along the Niagara Escarpment, the winery, which is currently sourcing its grapes from vineyards both in Niagara County and the Finger Lake Region, will by 2013 be producing grapes on property to sustain its operation.

Currently A Gust of Sun offers the following wines, Chardonnay, dry and semi-dry Riesling, dry and semi-dry Niagara, a dry blend of whites called “Three Westies White” in honor of the couple’s three Westland Highland White Terriers and Trismegistus, which is named after an Ancient Egyptian alchemist and means "thrice great." The wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
