NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.- Legislation was passed Wednesday which will allow daredevil Nik Wallenda to traverse the Niagara Gorge on a tightrope.

The allure of Niagara Falls has long attracted daredevils and thrill seekers looking to conquer the mighty cataracts of Niagara. Whether it was Annie Edson Taylor and a wooden barrel, or "The Great Blondin" the first daredevil to traverse the gorge on a wire.
On Wednesday, the New York State Legislature approved a bill which will allow Nik Wallenda, a seventh generation wire walker to follow in the footsteps of daredevils of a past generation and walk across the Niagara Gorge from Niagara USA to Canada just over the Horseshoe Falls.
"You go there and look and seeing them alone they're breathtaking," Wallenda said of Niagara Falls to the Associated Press "I almost tear up thinking about being out in the middle of that and what it's going to look like. It's going to be amazing."
According to the bill, Wallenda will have until August 2012 to perform the feat, which has been banned by the state for decades. It has been more than 100 years since someone has attempted the 2,200 long high wire act in Niagara Falls. Wallenda has not indicated a date, but stay tuned to the Experience Niagara USA blog for details as they become available.
