Niagara USA- A publication released by AAA Member Connection named a drive through Niagara County as the top scenic drive in Western New York

A publication recently released by AAA of Western and Central New York named Niagara County as the top destination for a scenic drive this Fall.

The suggested itinerary is filled with history, hiking and a bit of wine tasting through Niagara’s scenic fall foliage filled countryside.

Here’s the excerpt from AA Member Connection Magazine:

Start your day in the charming Village of Lewiston with a cup of coffee at the Orange Cat Coffee Company (703 Center St.). Lewiston is known as a “square mile of history” for its role in the War of 1812, and for its position as the last stop for slaves seeking freedom in Canada via the Underground Railroad. After your cup of joe, skip the faster, more direct route on the Robert Moses Parkway and instead follow Route 18F north on Lower River Road, which runs along the Niagara River and directly into Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown. Spend some time in the fresh autumn air and let the kids loose on the playgrounds, or explore the changing leaves along one of the park’s wooded hiking trails. (Plan accordingly—the second and third weeks of October are peak season for fall foliage in the Niagara Region.) Continue on Route 18F to Route 18, and stop for lunch overlooking the harbor at the Wilson Boat House Restaurant (57 Harbor St., Wilson), before an afternoon wine tasting at the Winery at Marjim Manor (7171 East Lake Road, Route 18). Autumn is the perfect time of year to ask owner Margo Sue Bittner about the haunted past of the winery, which has been featured on the popular “Ghost Hunters” TV series.
