Appleton, N.Y.- This weekend learn the language of the Victorian fan, while enjoying tea at The Winery at Marjim Manor.

The Winery at Marjim Manor will host the next in its series of Victorian Teas at 1 p.m. on Aug. 28. This installment will focus on "The Language of the Fan." In Victorian times, courtship often took place at various balls and dances. Young ladies became very adept at communicating with young men across the room using thier fans.
Throughout the day, visitors will be entertained with a plethora of information, learning the customs surrounding the dances, how they were organized and who was invited to these events during the Victorian period. Each guest will receive a fan and practice using it. To round out the program, various rules of Victorian etiquette surrounding visiting and courtship will be explained. As always, the afternoon will end with the recounting of the history of the Manor and its ghost story.
