Niagara Falls N.Y.- A national publication has named Niagara Falls as the world's fifth most popular destination.

Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked Niagara Falls as the world’s fifth most popular destination, combining data from an array of organizations, publications and news organizations to come up with their annual list.
The national publication placed Niagara Falls just behind the Las Vegas Strip, Union Station (Washington D.C.), Central Park in New York City and Times Square. According to the magazine, Niagara Falls USA was combined with Niagara Falls, Ontario as one destination putting total visitation at more than 22 million last year.
Travel and Leisure defined “tourist attractions” as cultural and historical sites, natural landmarks, and officially designated spaces. Short walkways and waterfront promenades also fit the publication's definition of tourist attractions; that disqualified the Blue Ridge Parkway. Travel and Leisure also excluded sights that draw almost exclusively religious pilgrims. Editor’s used the following methodology when tallying up the world’s most-visited attractions, we gathered the most recent data supplied by the attractions themselves or from government agencies, industry reports, and reputable media outlets. Whenever available we used 2010 data; however, in the case of theme parks and a few other attractions, the most recent attendance numbers were from 2009.
This marks the second time this month, Niagara USA was named to a top attraction list. Forbes Magazine named Niagara Falls USA as the 8th most popular destination attracting an estimated 12 million annual visitors.
