Celebrate the Aquarium of Niagara's 16th annual fundraising event "Winds Waves & Wines", at the Conference and Event Center Niagara Falls. The proceeds from this year's wine and food paring event will go towards the capital campaign "Join Our Journey".
Live music will be provided by The Rod Nickson Project and local DJ Pat Proctor (Premier Sound), will be spinning tunes in the courtyard.
There will be a chance to bid on great trips and merchandise including a one-week, all-inclusive trip for four to Mexico, a helicopter tour over Niagara Falls, jewelry, a round of golf, and more. All donated by Friends of the Aquarium. Also that night is the drawing for the Aquarium's mega raffle winner. Everyone who buys a mega raffle ticket has a one in 30 chance of winning $10,000.
The Aquarium of Niagara is one of only 20 institutions in North America to house, care and feature threatened Humboldt penguins. Phase I of "Join Our Journey" plans to feature a new Humboldt penguin exhibit, interactive classroom and encounter room. The new exhibit will include a 4-ft. deep pool with above and below water viewing that will encourage penguins to dive as they do in the wild, terraced rock ledges and one-and-a-half thick tempered glass for increased safety and temperature control.
The new educational and encounter classroom will be fully accessible for people with disabilities. It will incorporate state-of-the-art technology including smart boards, lab equipment, computers and teleconferencing. The classroom space will also serve as an animal encounter room to afford visitors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see these flightless birds up close.
"We are confident these enhanced animal encounters will provide a unique and strong educational experience immersing our visitors into the new habitat," said Gay Molnar, executive director, Aquarium of Niagara. "Winds Waves and Wines is designed to put the ‘fun' back in fundraiser, and our visitors are sure to enjoy it and experience the Aquarium for the important asset it is."
