Niagara Fishing Forecast and Shooting for a Cure

Lake Ontario and Tributaries

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 is the first deadline for registering for the Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament for mail-in with check. Get all your information online at www.lakeontarioproam.net. Also, the Olcott salmon arrived in the pens today, Thursday, April 26, 2012 and volunteers are needed! Sign up today at www.lotsa.org.

In the meantime, fishing action in the lake was put on hold for a few days thanks to the unseasonable weather this past week. Up until that point, fishing was good to very good for salmon and trout both. If you’d like to see how the whole fishing information thing works, check out the most recent video of local fishing reports that can be found onwww.loc.org.

After a few hard northeast blows, we’re not quite sure what we’ll end up with going into this weekend. You will probably be able to target inside of 150 feet of water from the Niagara River to 30 Mile Point for a mix of salmon and trout with stickbaits, spoons or flasher-fly combos. Start out fishing the mud line. Wes Walker at The Slippery Sinker also reports pier action for trout and coho salmon at Wilson and Olcott. The streams were all blown out from the rain, but when things settle down, there should be a few trout swimming around and panfish should be turning on.

Shooting for a Cure

Rich FalconeRich Falcone of Lewiston is getting ready to Shoot for a Cure once again, a component to the Relay for Life being coordinated through the American Cancer Society. He will be shooting 100 clay targets – four rounds of skeet – on May 19 at the Three-F Club to raise funds for the cause. Last year, Falcone raised in excess of $2,600! To help things along, four other club shooters will be stepping up to assist with the shooting event. Steve Zappy, Gerry Gipp, Jim Perri and Tim Baldwin will all be trying their best to bust 100 birds in a row. Sponsors will have the option to pay one price overall or offer a challenge of so much per bird broken. For example, if you donated 10 cents per bird and Falcone broke all 100 birds, you would be donating $10.  Stop down to the club at 904 Swann Road, Lewiston if you would like to help them Shoot for a Cure. Nice going, guys!
