The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is the only museum in the world housed in an authentic, original carousel factory building. And it’s right here in Niagara County!
The Allan Herschell Company was founded in 1915 in North Tonawanda, New York. Allan Herschell had previously been a partner in the earliest of the area’s carousel firms: the Armitage Herschell Company in 1873, and later with the Herschell-Spillman Company in 1901. (more…)
Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises
Monday, June 29th, 2009By Reanna Darone
What better way to relax on your visit to Niagara USA than to enjoy a narrated cruise along the historic Erie Canal and through the only remaining set of working double locks.
Start your tour at the Lockport Canalside, and make your way through the remodeled steel building that is an addition to an 1840’s canal stone building that housed a couple of businesses and now resembles a Canal Town and houses a meeting room, “Veranda” banquet room, gift shop, café and a pub with a mahogany bar. Make your way onto one of two Coast Guard inspected vessels that have snacks available on board and clean restrooms. (more…)

The top attractions in Niagara
Maid of the Mist- The Maid of the Mist has been in operation touring the base of the Niagara Falls since 1846. Experience the thrill of a lifetime on a boat tour at the bottom of the Falls.
Cave of the Winds- The Cave of the Winds is an experience not to be missed. Take an elevator to the lower Niagara River, walk along the wooden decks and stand right next to the Bridal Veil Falls.
Lockport Locks/Erie Canal- The Erie canal was hand-dug to connect the Hudson and the Niagara rivers. Experience a unique 2-hour cruise which includes “locking through” and being raised the 49 foot elevation of the Niagara Escarpment.
Best of Niagara
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009I am a Niagara Falls native and that alone has given me the opportunity to try some of the best food and products in our area. Here are some of my favorites with some input from the folks at the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation. Please feel free to post your own!!
Pizza: The taco pizza at Honey’s, near the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, is fantastic but for a slice of classic cheese and pepperoni Leon’s Pizza in the The Summit mall wins.
Taco: Everyone knows Niagara County is home to Colosso Taco! Pick one up on Pine Avenue and enjoy.
Beef on Weck: Carson’s, on the corner of Rt. 31 and Upper Mountain Rd., is a hometown favorite and in an unexpected place. They’re actually suppose to be known for their pies!
BBQ: Tie. The Brickyard on Center St. in Lewiston and One Eyed Jacks on Transit Rd. in Lockport top the list (and created some controversy here in the office!).
