“Journey to the North: New York’s Freedom Trail”

Special exhibit. The exhibit uses the story of one fictitious character to convey the real events experienced by many freedom seekers (escaped slaves) during their journey to freedom. Much of the narrative is told from the point of view of Sarah, a fifteen-year-old, fictional escaped slave.

Wine Trail Blossoms (Mother’s Day)

Travel to each winery to taste wine and collect a different potted herb plant. Tickets good for all three days and includes a wine tasting at each winery, a commemorative wine glass from your starting winery and a potted herb at each winery on the trail. $30/person or $50/couple pre-sale online; 35/person or $60/couple at the door.

“North Star Shining: New York State's Freedom Trail

7 p.m. An Illustrated Journey Along the Underground Railroad,” presented by Dr. Milton C. Sernett. New York State, and especially upstate's old "burned-over" district, was fertile soil for the flowering of abolitionism. This illustrated talk places the story of the Underground Railroad in the context of the religious and reform movements of the pre-Civil War period, including endeavors such as the temperance crusade and the women's rights campaign.

Soldiers through the Ages

The story of Fort Niagara's occupation from the colonial era through World War Two is told through special exhibits and demonstrations. 200 years of uniforms, weapons, tentage and transport. Comparative tactical demonstrations span the centuries from muskets to machine guns.
