“Journey to the North: New York’s Freedom Trail”

Special exhibit. The exhibit uses the story of one fictitious character to convey the real events experienced by many freedom seekers (escaped slaves) during their journey to freedom. Much of the narrative is told from the point of view of Sarah, a fifteen-year-old, fictional escaped slave.

Held out of the Niagara County ports of Wilson and Olcott, the local community coordinates special events to make it a fun filled weekend. Last year, more than $70,000 was paid out in cash and prizes.
