Kayak / Canoe / Sailing

With water surrounding and running through Niagara USA, the paddlesports like kayaking and canoeing are becoming more and more popular. Take a leisurely stroke through Wilson or Olcott harbors, as well as up the respective creeks for both of those areas – 12 Mile and 18 Mile creeks. The Erie Canal is another great destination for paddlers, from the Niagara River and North Tonawanda all the way to and through Lockport, Gasport and Middleport. There are areas of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario that can be both picturesque and challenging, but when the weather is right they are tough to beat.

Lake Ontario is an excellent destination for sailing, with yacht clubs located in Youngstown, Wilson and Olcott, as well as in the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls along the Upper Niagara River above the mighty Niagara Falls. Youngstown’s Level Regatta was one of the largest sail boat gatherings on the continent, held each year in July for 40 years. That ended in 2013 after the milestone was reached, but rest assured the Youngstown Yacht Club will be holding some type of smaller scale sailing event the end of July.
